Other groups of insects

The collection of Odonata comprises ca. 7.000 specimens. It is divided into a collection of pinned specimens in drawers and a collection of papered specimens arranged in an index-card file cabinet. Both parts have been recently rearranged and databased on species-level. The main part comes from the valuable collections which K. Kormann and G. Jurzitza donated to the SMNK. All in all, ca. 800 species from all regions are represented.

The Orthoptera are represented by more than 8.000 specimens at the SMNK; among them collections made by H. Knipper in the 60ies and 70ies of the past century in Europe and East Africa. Later, material was added from Yemen, Turkey, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Malaysia.
The local collection formed in part the basis of the book by P. Detzel „Die Heuschrecken Baden-Württembergs“.
The identified material of the Orthoptera-collection was databased on species-level and currently comprises 259 species in 53 drawers.

This part of the collection currently comprises ca. 25.000 specimens, which is relativley small considering the significance and diversity of the group. The collection of hoverflies (Syrphidae) is somewhat more extensive and was recently revised by D. Doczkal. Some parts of the Diptera-collection are not yet sorted.

This collection consists of ca. 2.500 specimens in 245 identified species. It was rearranged in 2007 by R.Güsten.
